The tall wide-leaved plant is common milkweed, one of the most important host plants for the monarch butterfly. What an amazing ability to grow nearly anywhere that isn't mowed every week...

Tom, there was another bunch of them at the front of the truck, and those had the most amazing seed pods—the strategy is clearly to get seeds into every nook and cranny that could possibly support growth.
